Solemnity of All Saints

29/10/2017

Wednesday 1 November is a Holy Day of Obligation, on which we are obliged to attend Mass. We shall have three Masses: 07:30, 10:00 and 20:00

The End of British Summertime

22/10/2017

A timely reminder that clocks go BACK one hour next Saturday night/Sunday Morning, 28/29 October, which means an extra hour in bed, not that most of us actually ever notice the difference! If you forget to adjust your clock, you might turn up an hour early for Sunday Mass!

Father Richard takes the place of Father Liam Gallagher who has moved from English Martyrs, Streatham to St. Francis’, Maidstone.

Canon Gerald Coates RIP

11/10/2017

Picture
Please pray for the repose of the soul of Canon Gerald Coates who passed away after a long period of illness on 10 October 2017.

Canon Gerald was a parishioner, and there is wonderful silent footage of his first Mass in our church on 13 June 1954 to be found on YouTube HERE. He was Ordained on 12 June at St. John's Seminary, Wonersh, and celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of his Ordination in 2014, by which time he was wheelchair-bound.
His funeral arrangements are as follows:

Reception of the Body and Vespers at Arundel Cathedral on Monday 6 November, at 17:00
Funeral Mass  for Canon Gerald at Arundel Cathedral on Tuesday 7 November, at 12:00 followed by a Buffet Reception in the Cathedral Hall.
Burial will take place the following day with family members in attendance.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May his soul and the all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God,
rest in peace.
Amen.

We'd love you to join our Polyphony Choir

17/9/2017

The Poly Choir returns for practices on Tuesday 19 September. It commences its preparations for Christmas and its autumn term duties at 20:00 on Tuesday 3 October in the Gallery (enter the church by way of the side door in Ellison Road). This would be the perfect occasion to join. The immediate commitment would be to weekly Tuesday evening practices, and sung Masses on 5 and 26 November,
3 December and our Christmas Midnight Mass. Why not pop along and find out more – bring a friend, perhaps? Click on ‘About the Choir’ at www.polychoir.co.uk to find out more.

Important notice regarding local road works

28/7/2017

Speed humps are to be placed in Ellison Road, Danbrook Road and Arragon Gardens. This will take place between Thursday 3 and Friday 11 August 2017, depending on the weather. These traffic calming works may involve road closures and diversions, and will undoubtedly make it more difficult than usual to find parking spaces near the church. Please drive and park with care and with thought for others during this period.

Confirmations 2017

13/7/2017

On the evening of Friday 24 June 2017, Bishop Patrick Lynch visited St. Bartholomew's to confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on 42 of our young people. The Mass was a wonderful and uplifting occasion. Bishop Pat commented on how well all the candidates took part and how clearly they made their responses. Congratulations go to all the newly confirmed, their families and their sponsors. Special thanks goes to the team of catechists, who have been preparing the group for the last seven months, and to the priests and altar servers who attended. Please remember our young people in your prayers that, filled with the Holy Spirit, they will go forth and use their newly acquired Gifts in the service of the Lord.
