The Organ at St. Bartholomew's
St. Bartholomew's has a very fine two manual pipe organ built by F.H. Browne and Sons of Canterbury during 1971-2, installed by them in 1972, and variously enlarged, altered and updated by them in 1985, 1996 and 2005. The instrument was built high in the gallery, the pipe work each side of the window depicting Christ the King at the west end of the church beneath which the forward-facing console sits. The instrument provides ample resources for leading a capacity congregation in hymn singing, as well as providing the tonal colours necessary to choral singing in the parish. It is also occasionally used as a solo and a concerto instrument.
The 2005 refurbishment and extension of the instrument was entirely supported by the parishioners by way of a Sponsor a Pipe scheme. The Choirs and the Parish will always remain greatly appreciative of the generosity shown by so many.
(In August 2020 F H Browne & Sons Ltd announced that it had acquired the trading name and intellectual property rights of Mander Organs Ltd. From 1 October 2020 F H Browne (Organ Builders) Ltd began trading under the name Mander Organ Builders.)
