The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
This is a programme of weekly meetings aimed at people interested in becoming a Catholic or for those who wish to return after a period of absence or others who are enquiring about our faith. In other cases people attend who have not been received formally but now want to become full members of the church.
Depending on each person’s circumstances, the programme may last from about 6-10 weeks up to one year. During that time they will study different aspects of the faith with catechists and a priest and are prepared to receive the sacraments. Part of the process includes an invitation from the Archdiocese to attend a Rite of Election Service at St. George’s Cathedral which is attended by all candidates and their sponsors. The final stage is the reception into the church during the Easter Vigil Service.
