Dispensation from Friday Abstinence - Friday 5 May 2023

To assist those celebrating the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the Archbishop has granted a dispensation from Friday Abstinence on Friday 5 May.

The Bishops of England and Wales have requested that on Friday 5 May each parish celebrates Mass for His Majesty the King to mark his Coronation. At St. Bart's this will be the 10:00 Mass. At the end of Mass (after the Prayer after Communion and before the Final Blessing) the Prayer for the King is said.

A very warm welcome to Father Paul

Fr Paul Etafo Ubebe is a Priest of the Congregation of the Oblates of the Virgin Mary, an international Religious Order. On October 7th 2017, he was elected Delegate Superior of that order in Nigeria, going on to serve as Major Superior until October 2022. He also served on the Executive Council of the Conference of the Major Superiors of Nigeria until January 2023.

Parish Celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III on 7 May

The Social Committee will be organising a Coronation Party, with an international theme. This will take place on Sunday 7 May 2023 from 13:00-18:00. You are invited to come along in your own traditional dress, or indeed whatever you feel comfortable wearing. You are also invited to bring along with you a dish/dishes of your choice.

The late U.S. President John F. Kennedy once said, "As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words but to live by them." It is against this backdrop that I should like to express my sincere gratitude to all you parishioners of St. Bartholomew’s Norbury for your kind generosity. Your personal gifts and the beautiful words you have both said and written to me are fuel that fires me up, ready to do more! Right from my very first meeting with Fr. Deo, I was most warmly received, and I felt so very welcome, immediately feeling at home. Hence, I could give my best to the community. You opened not only your arms but your doors to me and made me feel a valued member of the parish community. So many of you, at one point or another, made me feel especially loved - not just tolerated. For every kind word, amazing conversation, invitation for a meal, each gift of a smile, and warm welcome extended to me, I say a big thank you! Please continue to pray for me as I shall for you. I'll see you again, God willing. Otherwise, we shall definitely meet at Jesus' feet. Shalom. Fr. Gus.
