St. Vincent de Paul Society

The aim of the St. Vincent de Paul Society is to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those facing difficult and challenging circumstances, finding motivation in shared mission to seek and find those in need, to help them in spirit of justice and to tackle the cause of poverty where possible.
The society, founded in 1833, began with a group of students in Paris led by Frederick Ozanam who were motivated to action by poverty they saw in their own city. 11 years later in 1844 the first conference was begun in Britain by a friend of Ozanam's, George Wigley, which soon turned into four conferences by the end of the year, growing into the 1,000 conferences that are part of the SVP England and Wales today.
Our conference at Norbury focuses on visiting those who live in isolation, whether in their own homes or in care homes.
Meetings take place on alternate Thursday at 20:00. There are no costs involved but we do conduct a secret envelope collection that takes place at each meeting. for further information or you would like to join please contact the Parish Office 020 8679 3545.
